This stuff makes me so sick, and so angry...it makes me wonder what parents are teaching their children...makes me wonder what kinds of drugs people are doing that make them numb...and when I hear these things it keeps me up at night, makes me go into my babies rooms and just kiss them and pray over them and want to never let them leave the house again!! One thing I read that has stuck with me is from a parenting book on raising boys, and the author said to NEVER EVER leave your children with an adolescent boy as the babysitter...even if they are nice, normal boys, boys hormones are so wild at that time, that it just invites danger...I plan to heed this advice, even though I HAVE a boy. You know what else scares the shit out of me? That every day another teacher is having sex with another student...I guess I'm going to have to homeschool now too!!
Numb is definitely the word. Do you know how many times the Hero in a movie has to get shot before they die? Or how many stab wounds they can take and still run a mile? Shows like Grey's Anatomy (which most 2nd graders watch!) show that everyone seems to miraculously live through things. Sure you can drown and not breathe for an hour...but you'll be ok. I watched a cartoon the other day on TV on Nick that they were having put down contests. Basically teaching kids how to call other kids fat, ugly, and dorks. excellent. What happened to the snorks.
